Barefoot steps into partnership with Abrams & Chronicle Books

Barefoot Books, the independent children’s publisher, is entering a new sales partnership with distributor Abrams & Chronicle Books (A&CB). Launching at London Book Fair in March 2019, Barefoot’s award-winning list will be sold throughout the UK and selected European and international markets by A&CB’s representatives.

Founded in 1992 in England by CEO Nancy Traversy and former Editor-in-Chief Tessa Strickland, Barefoot Books continues to be a woman-owned and -run business with a mission to create beautiful books that celebrate diversity, spark curiosity and capture children’s imaginations. In 2017 it was named by Forbes as one of the 25 Best Small Companies in America

From Barefoot Books CEO and Co-founder, Nancy Traversy:

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Abrams and Chronicle Books to expand our presence in the UK, where our Barefoot story began more than 25 years ago. Our mission to nurture children’s compassion, curiosity and creativity has endured over the decades and feels more relevant now than ever. We are incredibly proud to be in the company of such highly regarded publishers as Laurence King Publishing and the V&A, along with Chronicle Books and Abrams, and excited to be embarking on this new chapter in Barefoot’s story.”

Barefoot Books has earned the respect of educators, librarians and parents for its colourful collection of products that open children’s hearts, minds and worlds. Best-sellers include Mindful Kids and Yoga Pretzels activity decks, Barefoot Books World Atlas by BBC Presenter Nick Crane, I Took the Moon for a Walk by Alison Jay, and a pioneering Singalong series with engaging videos.

Known for its innovative and community-focused approach to publishing and reaching its core audience of discerning parents and educators, Barefoot has never taken the traditional path. For many years, the founders brought their books and vision to life in their award-winning Oxford Studio, a beautiful hub for families to connect and create. Now, after more than a quarter of a century, Barefoot has grown into a timeless, and timely, global family brand for the very best children’s content.

Managing Director at Abrams & Chronicle Books, Brenda Marsh, comments:

“We are so pleased to welcome Barefoot Books to our client family and to extend our outstanding children’s offering. Barefoot’s books and gifts promote critical thinking, mindfulness and social emotional learning, encouraging awareness of the world, and sparking creativity and imagination. We are looking forward to introducing our customers to their delightful new titles, as well as their award-winning backlist.”
