Abrams acquires Cameron + Company

Abrams & Chronicle Books takes on UK market and European export sales

ABRAMS, the premier publisher of art and illustrated books, is pleased to announce the acquisition of Cameron + Company, a family-owned publisher based in Petaluma, CA, known for publishing high-quality books with a focus on photography, art, food and wine, children’s books, and topics of regional interest.

Cameron + Company will be a separate division under the ABRAMS umbrella with Chris Gruener, Vice President & Publisher of Cameron + Company, reporting directly to ABRAMS President and CEO Michael Jacobs. Nina Gruener, Publishing Director of Cameron Kids, Iain Morris, Creative Director of Cameron + Company, and the current staff will remain based in their offices in Northern California.

“ABRAMS and Cameron + Company share a love and passion for publishing beautiful, well-curated, and well-made books for both adults and children. This acquisition is a natural next step between our companies.  We have been working together successfully for the past few years as the distributor of Cameron + Company in North America and are thrilled to welcome the terrific people at Cameron + Company and the opportunity to help them grow. The acquisition gives ABRAMS a new West Coast perspective that is exciting for us as well,” says Jacobs.

“We have long admired the publishing program and reputation of ABRAMS and have enjoyed our strategic collaboration as a distribution client. To now become a part of the ABRAMS family is an honor for all of us here at Cameron + Company. We are very excited to expand our list and continue the legacy that Nina’s grandfather, Robert Cameron, began fifty-six years ago in San Francisco when he started Cameron + Company,” says Chris Gruener.

Cameron + Company, which publishes 25 to 30 titles a year, has had several recent bestsellers, including Rick Baker: Metamorphosis (Cameron Books); The President Sang Amazing Grace: A Book About Finding Grace by Zoe Mulford and Jeff Scher (Cameron Kids); IACP Cookbook Award winner Season: A Year of Wine Country Food, Farming, Family & Friends by Justin Wangler and Tracey Shepos Cenami (Cameron Books); and Love Is a Tutu by Amy Novesky and Sara Gillingham (Cameron Kids). Forthcoming notable titles include Brown: The Many Shades of Love by Nancy Johnson James and Constance Moore (Cameron Kids); The Drinking Man’s Diet Cookbook—the reissue of a classic Cameron title that has sold more than 2.4 million copies since it was originally published in 1964; and the recently released fiftieth anniversary edition of Above San Francisco by Robert Cameron.
