World Book Day 2020 | Ada, Sofia, Iggy + Rosie Dress-Up Tips

World Book Day is on its way and we’re here to help with some top tips on how to dress up like your favourite Questioneers character! Are you ready to dress up like a scientist (Ada Twist style) or as an activist like Sofia Valdez? If you’re more into being an engineer, then we have some pointers on how to dress like Rosie Revere. Plus, some suggestions on where to find that all important pencil to finish off your Iggy Peck costume.

Who better for dress-up inspiration than this amazing group of friends? They are creative, curious and determined kids with big dreams, just like you!

1. Ada Twist – Stellar Scientist

First, determined Ada Twist, with her boundless curiosity for science and love of asking the question ‘Why?’

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Red and white dotted dress
  • Yellow gloves (find them in any supermarket or ask at home if there are any spare under the kitchen sink)
  • Plastic lab glasses or goggles (you can borrow some from school or ask a parent/guardian to help find some)
  • White polka dot long socks
  • A red pencil (Ada is always writing down equations to things, so it’s a good idea to keep one handy)

Those are the core elements but you can complete the look with long white socks, black T-Bar shoes and a yellow hair bobble. Keep the outfit ready for British Science Week too from 6-15 March!

2. Rosie Revere – Bold Engineer

Where some people see rubbish, Rosie sees inspiration. We can often find her alone in her room, where she dreams of becoming a great engineer as she constructs countless inventions from odds and ends. You can construct your very own Rosie costume from items of clothing you will probably already have.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A white t-shirt (or regular) dress or oversized white t-shirt.
  • Fabric pens + masking tape or hemming tape
  • A red and white dotted strip of fabric for a headscarf
  • Long white socks or tights
  • Red shoes or sandals (optional)
  • A pencil and notebook (Rosie brings these everywhere she goes, she is an engineer after all)

3. Sofia Valdez – A dreamer. A does. A real life go-getter

Sofia Valdez is the latest addition to the Questioneers family! She is a strong community leader who stands up for what she believes in and in  her new picture book, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez she helps fight for change in her community. You can be an activist just like Sofia!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A navy and white floral dress (a navy dress will also do)
  • Red socks or shoes
  • x3 white clips worn on one side
  • A yellow pencil to write down any ideas you might have
  • A yellow satchel bag (not essential)
  • A placard made with a message you want heard

Sofia Valdez’s story is due to continue with Sofia Valdez and the Vanishing Vote! This brand-new chapter book adventure is heading your way 6 October 2020.

4. Iggy Peck – Amazing Architect

Iggy loves building things and he’ll use anything that comes to hand for his creations! He also likes his patterned knitwear. This outfit is harder to DIY but can be put together with some wardrobe essentials.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A grey or black and white jumper (patterned, fairisle, jacquard or similar)
  • Alternatively you can go with Iggy’s white t-shirt look from later in the book and tie a jumper around your waist
  • Grey, dark grey or black jeans
  • Green shoes or converse – not everyone looks at your feet though so don’t worry if you can’t get some in time
  • An all important pencil behind your ear (see if you have a yellow pencil at home)
  • An excellent quiff (nothing a bit of hair gel can’t fix into place)

Did you know that Iggy has a new story book coming out? Iggy Peck and the Mysterious Mansion is out 12th May!

We hope you have a wonderful World Book Day!
