Bookstore of the Week – Castor and Pollux, Brighton

Halfway between the two piers of Brighton’s beautiful seafront, with its sticks of rock and sand-buckets, stands a bookish treasure, our Bookstore of the Week, Castor+Pollux.

Both a bookshop and gallery, since 2001 Castor+Pollux have been selling a colourful selection of illustration-led prints, books, magazines and stationery, along with jewellery, glass and pottery. It’s got everything for a perfect gift or a treat for yourself! Everything in this enormous space is piled high, beautiful and quirky. You’ll need time to browse it all but, with lovely books and a sea breeze, we’re not in a rush!

In the gallery, you’ll find a thriving gallery of artists’ work exhibited including Jonathan Adler,Tatty Devine, Rob Ryan, Quentin Blake, Mini Moderns and Moma. Prints are available too including amazing early covers of your favourite books and a mounting service making Castor+Pollux a one stop shop. Owners Mike and Robert have incredible taste and everything in their sunlit store is personally selected with their very valuable seal of approval! If you can’t make it down to lovely Brighton, you can order online too!

But with it’s cool Brighton vibes and super friendly staff we highly recommend you stop buy for a browse in this well-designed emporium of books, homeware, gifts, incredible art and that sea air.


Fun fact: Castor and Pollux are the Gemini twins, and Roman Gods of seafarers. They are also Helen of Troy’s brothers.
